Movie Information:
Oshima ends up staying with her son and his wife, who live in Tokyo . However, “Sumire,” the wife of his son “Tetsugaku,” was unfriendly and always had a sour expression, so Oshima had long found her difficult to deal with. One day, “Tetsugaku” was injured and had to be hospitalized. Amid the awkwardness of living alone with her, Oshima, out of mischief, tried telling Sumire a joke that wasn’t really funny: “My son died in the hospital…” To his surprise, Sumire—who was usually expressionless—let out a look of utter shock, her eyes nearly popping out of her head. Surprised by her reaction, Oshima became eager to see Sumire’s funny faces again and began setting up pranks that felt like hidden-camera stunts, but she remained as sullen as ever.
