On the way back from a business trip to the countryside with my subordinate, Rinne, the train was unexpectedly suspended due to a typhoon. We managed to secure lodging at a nearby branch office, but there was only one room available. Soaked to the bone by the heavy rain, the two of us ended up facing each other while wrapped in bath towels. We tried to cover up the awkwardness, but Rinne sat closer than usual and muttered, “I’ve always had a crush on you, Manager.” That single sentence changed the tense atmosphere, and even though our rational minds tried to stop us, the two of us slowly crossed the line.
